Wonky Bee Inspired

Georgia's Block is finally done!

It's funny, I did a little write up on my blog about using bees for inspiration.  (The virtual sewing kind, rather than the buzzing honey making kind).  I joined quilting bees to force myself to use fabric that I would not normally select to make blocks that I would  not normally select to be assembled into quilts I would not normally select.  To open my eyes a bit.  It's like trying Thai food for the first time!

When Georgia's packet arrived, I wanted to die!   The pattern she selected was one that I absolutely did not like from the moment I got my Block Party book months back.

I may have pouted a bit.
Maybe whined a little.
A big ol' ugggghhh in my throat.

But we join bees to drag us out of our little comfort zone, so out of the box I begrudgingly crawled.

Now, I think I made Georgia's block backward (SORRY!).

But the POINT of the story is that it wasn't bad!  I didn't hate the block, I didn't hate the fabric, I didn't hate the quilt that it will join it's sister blocks to make!  I even...dare I say...LOVED IT!

And Georgia girl, I gotta say- that block and pattern INSPIRED ME.  Inspired me to create this, and THIS I LOVE!!

So next time I receive a block instruction set, or fabric or anything else that isn't my favorite, I will JUMP at the opportunity to see what dreams it may whirl up in my head!

Thank you Georgia for teaching me!

And yes, I tried Thai food for the fist time a couple years ago, and hate that I went thirty some years without it!

Wonky Triangle Fever!

Well the triangle blocks are a comin', I've received (7) so far and it's wonderful getting packages from all over.  I'm remembering you all by "state".... and "country" (Hayley) :)  Thank you everyone!  As soon as I get the top together I will be sure to post a picture.  Please remember to make notes on your pattern, there were quite a few questions so I don't want you all to forget when you make your own ;)  It's not quite as easy as I thought writing your own pattern. Looking forward to Jodi's block.
 Talk to you all soon,
 Georgia

Got it!!

I got my package from Jodi just now, safe and sound...although I didn't find out until I asked everyone if I'd gotten a package yet (what on earth is wrong with husband & kids???  They should run to the door waving packages in the air when they know fabric came!!)

I have to confess right up front that after reading the instructions aloud to my 11 year old daughter and looking through the fabrics together - we have decided not to use one of the strips.  In fact, my daughter Trinity says that since you all have a piece of paper in your packet with our address on it, you should just check your own packets, and send her any spare bits of the rainbow fabric with swirls and stars on it, lol!!  She is a big fan ;)

Tomorrow is a big sewing day for me, so I will get this done and back in the mail on Monday for you, Jodi.  Happy weekend, everyone!!

A Love for Wonky is in the Air

OH I am so every excited our Second Month of the Wonky Bee is already here, even though I can't believe how Fast January FLEW by.....Georgia has advised me her blocks are arriving and that they are exactly what she had in mind for her first Wonky Quilt.  I bet after working on Georgia's block we are all VERY excited about our own... I know I have been looking at all kinds of wonky quilts online to see what I want to do for my month.  I've changed my mind about 10 times already, and I still have until December to decide... HaHa...   I'm in trouble.   :)

February is Jodi's Month and I am equally excited to see what Jodi will be sending out.   I spoke with her via email just the other day, she has let me know that her blocks are just about ready.   She is going to have them in the mail by Monday, at the latest.     I don't know about you guys,  but I am super excited to see what arrives.   She gave me a hint..and I will share... :)   The blocks are a bit smaller..so now she's peaked my curiosity and can't wait to get her fabric in the mail. ;)

Some other quick information....

Mrs Pickles is still waiting for her package from Georgia...I am learning quickly that it takes a bit of time to get to her in Canada, she told me the other day that she's excited to get her fabric..and now that she has seen what we are all working on for Georgia... she wants it to really hurry up and get to her.
Hugs to you that it arrives soon.. I know that your chomping at the bit now :)

March will be just around the corner before we know it and Bea will be hosting March.   I noticed on her blog, she's posted that she's starting to figure out what she wants to do for her quilt..... I have to say that Bea amazes me with all the wonderful projects she has going on... you can check out all her great posts over at BEAQUILTER

Have a WONKY Wonderful Day!  :)
